Farm Preschool Activities for Kids

What is your child’s favorite thing to learn about?

For my son it’s ANIMALS! Kids of ALL ages love animals and one of our favorite themes is FARM Animals!

Farm Activity Calendar

We are using a Farm theme Activity Calendar for our home Preschool studies. You can make a simple Activity Calendar by pringting out a Google Calendar and jotting down the activities you want to try to and keep yourself organized or grab mine for free.

Customize your theme by asking and answering these questions for yourself:

What types of animals are on the farm?

We will focus on animals like; cows, sheep, goats, Chickens & Roosters, Pigs. How they live on a farm (what they need, where they sleep, etc.)

What are the best farm books?

Read Books and draw pictures to find out where they live on the farm (barn, pasture, coop, pen, etc.) and what they eat, and how they help people (if your family talks about animals raised for food).

How do I introduce a learning theme?

A fun way to introduce a FARM Theme is with songs!

ENRICHMENT EXPERIENCES:

Where can we I go see real farm animals?

What was your favorite field trip as a kid?

So far my son’s favorite is a toss up between the tide-pools and the Pumpkin Patch.  Many people take their kids to a petting zoo or pumpkin patch each year because it is a family tradition or it’s just good clean fun (so to speak)We preschool at home and I plan most of our themed units around our local enrichment experiences. They are SO much fun & a major part of what kids remember most when learning anyway!

Check your local area for petting zoos or call around to nearby farms and see if they have a program where kids can come check out the animals.

If that isn’t an option try a Pumpkin Patch! They start setting up in September (so just keep an eye out) and are usually open late September/ early October.

INDOOR PLAY IDEAS:

Sensory Play

If you do not have access to a farm or Pumpkin Patch try making a Farm Themed Sensory Bin.

NOTE: I pick up my sensory bin materials about a season in advance. For example: I picked up the materials for our Ocean Sensory Bin in February or March, so even though it’s summer keep an eye out for Fall or farm themed toys and grab ’em! They’ll be gone by August I can almost guarantee it!

Indoor/ Outdoor Play Area or Dramatic Play Center

Backyard Farmer’s Market:

  • a table
  • play food
  • play cash register (optional)

These are great to have ready to go for those scorching hot early fall days anyway!
